Summary

• All “normal” HD Formats are Upper Field First
• All “normal” DV Formats are Lower Field First
• Avid DV25 and DV50 codecs are exceptions to the rule

Overall, I’m impressed with how amazing the quality is. Just a few years back, I would have to shoot on 16mm film just to be able to achieve a similar look, with a that depth of field.

However, one has to take note of possible compression artifacts that might appear for complicated scenes that has too much information for the H.264 compressor to handle.

I’ve also uploaded these footages to MotionElements for sale. It’s a marketplace for fellow 5D video/photographers to make some money with their stock footage.

However, you will need to make you get your settings right.

1. Make sure you upgraded to at least Firmware v. 1.1.0
2. Click “Menu” > “Live View/Movie func. set.” > “LV func. setting” > SET to “Stills + Movie” > SET to “Movie Display”
3. Mode Dial on top of the camera to “M”.
4. Now when you record video, you can adjust shutter and aperture independently.

If you only have Adobe CS3, the raw converter (version 4.6) for in Bridge and Photoshop CS3 still does not support 5D MarkII’s raw files. You will have to download FREE Adobe DNG Converter 5.5 and use it to convert all your raw files in DNG format first.
