Eating Ayam Penyet and Ikan Penyet with rice. Ayam Penyet (smashed fried chicken) and Ikan Penyet (fish) are Indonesian dishes. The dishes consist of fried chicken or fried fish that is smashed to make it softer. It has recently popular across South East Asia. They are also known for their spicy sambal, which is made with a mixture of chilli, anchovies, tomatoes, onions, garlics, belacan, assam and lime juice. This Indonesian dish is said to originate from Surabaya.The chicken meat and meat are first marinated with various herbs and spices. Then they are smashed with a hammer to tenderise the meat before deep frying. Typically, ayam penyet or Penyet are served with chicken or fried fish, accompanied with fried tempeh, fried beancurd, crunchy golden batter bits, chilli sambal, raw lettuce, cabbage and rice. Both chicken and fish are crispy on the outside and tender on the inside.
