More than 4.4 million people visit the memorial monument each year. The Freedom Wall is on the west side with a view of the Reflecting Pool and Lincoln Memorial behind it. The wall has 4 048 gold stars each representing 100 Americans who died in the war. A pillar represents each state and territory as well as an arch for the Pacific and Atlantic combat theaters.
