The Madison River and road provided a lifeline for the ranches to get their livestock grains vegetables and dairy products to the nearby bustling mining camps. In 1885 this bridge was built and operated as a toll road across the water. It was rebuilt in 1905 when a 600 head herd of cattle collapsed the middle span.
