A slightly oblique aerial view over the volcanic maar lake at Longwan, Jilin Province, reveals the dramatic geology of the ancient crater as dark water fills the near-perfect bowl. The forested crater rim is painted with early autumn colours, and a small tourist vessel sits at the lakeside dock. Beyond the crater rim, the broader landscape of rolling forested ridges and a distant settlement completes the panorama.
