In 1642, the 19th year of the Kan'ei era, the third Shogun, Iemitsu, was 39 years old. With the aim of promoting martial arts, he built a temple identical to Kyoto's Sanjusangendo Temple in its current location in Asakusa. The origin of the name "Yasaki" comes from the fact that "Toshiya" (a traditional Japanese archery game) was performed in the hallway, and the shrine at the end of the target was called "Yasaki."
